Its been another busy six months here at Geographe Kids and we have had some very exciting things happen. The year started off with our Festival of Busselton Campaign with our festival ambassador Mrs Hayley Packard Hair. It was hard work for Hayley and we where so proud of her achievements and we managed to come away with a trophy, not the big prize mind you of young Ambassador, but one we think suits us even better …… Queen of the Powder Puff Derby. Hayley did have a slightly unfair advantage on the other contestants with a International Triathlete and a Body Builder on her team !!
Our Garden Party Fashion Fiesta and New Years Eve Summer Swing Spectacular featuring Catherine Johns and Simply Swing where fabulous events and a great time was had by all in attendance …… I will attempt to track down some photos to share with you all in the coming week.
It has also been a few months of ups and downs for some of our precious Geo Kids with a few surgeries carried out, surgeries scheduled and couple of unexpected set backs but as usual all these brave little guys and girls have carried on smiling with that amazing tenacity they all seem to have. They are an inspiration to us all and never fail to make us remember WHY what we do is so important.
Our super exciting new of this year is the partnership between Geographe Kids and Gemmill Homes Southwest for the construction of our Geokids Cottage Respite home. We are hoping to build the facility beach front at the lovely Locke Estate and hope to also incorporate a lovely new “Camp for Kids” on the same property a little down the track. We are waiting for submissions to the shire for the land and hope to know the outcomes by January ! We think the home will be a fabulous asset for all of our regional groups to utilise for many years to come and are really excited to get the ball rolling.
Finally, it is time to get on the job and organize our Geokids Ball for this year ( or early next ) and the possibilities seem to be endless and almost impossible to decide a theme. I think I am driving the board members mad with constant phone calls of ” Hey . why dont we do ……..” and the next day “I’ve been thinking” .usually to be met some comment about me being best not to think as it is dangerous ! Anyway . please rest assured when we finally do decide on the Theme it will be an event not to be missed ! It will be our first fundraiser to go toward the creation of our Geokids Cottage that as you can see from the preliminary drawing below is going to be a special little place for our regional kids.
